How We Met
It was the week before New Year's Eve 2012 on a cold winter night in NYC. Curtis was visiting New York from San Francisco for a New Year's Eve party, and that night he happened to be at one of Janet's favorite places in New York -- Third Floor Cafe! Janet was hanging out with her friend Caroline Kim, having one of their normal chat date nights, when they ran into David Kim, a mutual friend, who introduced Curtis to Janet and said we should talk since "we all went to Wharton" (thank you Wharton, knew you would come in handy one day).
Curtis and Janet kept in touch and when Janet came to San Francisco for a business trip a few months later, what was meant to be one date turned into hanging out all weekend. From a romantic afternoon at the Palace of Fine Arts and some great laughs over dinner, to a night of clubbing, to Janet's first Bay to Breakers, it was a whirlwind weekend.
Curtis had been checking out Janet on Facebook for awhile so only needed that weekend to confirm she was the one for him. ;) Janet was quickly taken by Curtis' charm, kind eyes, ability to feed her amazing meals, and dance moves at the club. That one weekend had them falling for each other. And the rest is history!
The Proposal
Weeks before the proposal, Curtis told Janet to keep the evening of Friday June 14th open because he had bought a "groupon deal for a cruise around the bay". So an unsuspecting Janet left work that Friday evening and met him at the Pier near her apartment. To her surprise, it was not a cheesy groupon group cruise like she thought, but a private boat with their very own crew.
A few minutes into the cruise, as they were passing by some of their favorite spots along the Bay, Curtis brought out his iPad. Janet was about to make fun of him for bringing his iPad on a boat, but soon he was showing her the sweetest video she'd ever seen. Curtis had made a video with all of their memories since they started dating (watch it!). And while Janet was absorbed by the video, crying because she was so overwhelmed at how touching it was, Curtis was getting down on one knee.
Of course she said yes. And just when she thought that was it, being the most elaborately planned proposal she could have imagined, Curtis had balloons go into the air to signal that she had indeed said "yes" and pointed to the pier where their friends were shouting congratulations and waving at them.
Curtis and Janet picked them up, enjoyed a champagne celebration around the Bay with their friends, and continued the celebration later that night with more friends. A romantic beginning to their future together ;)
